Local Organizations

• Western New York Peace Center:  LASC is a task force of the WNY Peace Center. The Peace Center has been proposing alternatives to war and violence to Western New York since 1967.  Besides LASC, it has task forces concentrating on the Middle East, on alternatives to war, on education in non-violent conflict resolution and many other issues. It is a member of United for Peace and Justice, the largest national US peace organization. The Peace Center islocated at 2123 Bailey Ave., near the corner of Bailey and Genesee. Call 894-2013. Buffalo Coalition for Progressive Media - The Buffalo, NY group that has put Democracy Now on the airwaves in the Western New York Region, along with a number of local programs that offer alternative voices to WNY.Call (716) 833-5416 • Mail: BCPM c/o WNYCOSH 2495 Main St. • Suite 438. Financial help is always needed to keep Democracy Now on the air in this area.

• Buffalo Peace People: The web site of this organization maintains what is probably the most comprehensive calendar of peace and justice related events in Western New York. The site also offers an excellent set of links. BPP's Organizers Network attempts to link members and leaders of WNY peace and justice groups and to maximizae co-ordination of activities.

• Amnesty International, Local 465 - Amnesty is active in freeing prisoners of conscience, gaining fair trials for political prisoners, ending torture, political killings and "disappearances," and abolishing the death penalty throughout the world. It publishes many reports on human rights violations within our hemisphere, as well as throughout the world.
